Rick Falcon

The cast of characters that inhabit the autobiographically charged spaces created by Rick Falcon all appear to be sharing a esoteric message, one which symbolic imagery can provide. Languishing in subtle undercurrents of disappointment and tragedy Falcon's motley cast of theistic figures convey a sense of fallen grace or perhaps an inability to reach a pious goal. The style of Falcon's iconographic imagery dips into two world while inhabiting our own, entrenched in both the classical perspectives and color palette of the Renaissance masters while adopting a decidedly contemporary aesthetic. This fierce juxtaposition in approach serves both technical and conceptual purposes; Falcon is creating a world where those perceived to be just and holy exist in the same state of lament and repression which is usually thrust upon the "marginal" and less than desirable parts of society. It's clear when viewing Falcon's work that the artist has a clear and dual appreciation in both the beauty of the classical but also the communicative and emotive power inherent in outsider art.
